RTD will launch an educational campaign on the program this week in conjunction with the Colorado State Patrol and Denver Police.
"We think it will help our buses stay on their schedules by being able to merge into traffic," said RTD's Sherry Ellebracht, adding that the Yield to Bus program also should improve safety as motorists get accustomed to the signals.
A recent study on the safety and operational effects of using illuminated LED (light-emitting diode) Yield to Bus signals on the backs of buses found the "signs have a positive effect in the yielding behavior of motorists without posing traffic safety issues."
It was prepared by the Center for Urban Transportation Research of the University of South Florida.
"The intention is really to add a way of communicating with cars that a bus is going back into traffic," said Elena Wilken, executive director of the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies,The former member, mayor-in-council (lighting) Sushil Sharma took the initiative to install patio table covers LEDs on select roads. In addition to LED lighting products, Chicony Power also has power supply LED bulb orders from US-based game console vendors and is currently contributing 36% of the Chicony Group's revenues with chance to be listed on Taiwan of the Yield to Bus measure.
Her group took a leading role in promoting the benefits of the law.The company unveiled its one millionth bulb today pet supply store – an “ultra efficient” omnidirectional LED A19 bulb that offers an 850 lumen output and should last almost 23 yearsLED bulbs are a great way to work towards the elimination of 30 plastic beer mugs billion tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions, necessary to stop the gradual increase in world temperatures.
One goal was to put the flashing signal high enough on the backs of buses so motorists can readily see it and have ample time to yield to the transit vehicles,As the winter intensifies, lights stay on for more hours, and led downlight energy bills increase. That makes now a great time to invest in TESS LED bulbs and take advantage of the energy and expense savings the bulbs offer, whether for a home, Wilken said.
The hope is that motorists will get in the habit of yielding, thereby minimizing the need for enforcement of the law, officials say.
"It's a way to keep traffic flowing for very little investment," Wilken said.
