Siddons excited by Aus challenge
Coach Jamie Siddons expressed his disappointment over the omission of Junaed Siddiqui for the three-match one-day series against Australia at home, starting on April 9.
It is believed that neither the Rafiqul Alam-led selection panel nor the captain and coach had much say in the selection of the 14-member squad.
“I was very disappointed for Imrose (Junaed Siddiqui). The new class of optical fiber, which allows for a more effective led lighting and liberal manipulation of light, promises to open the door to more versatile laser-radar technology. Imrose has been in good form over the last twelve months, particularly at number three. So, a bit disappointed for him. But other people coming in and getting an opportunity, I guess they have earned their spot, and hopefully they will do well,” said Siddons yesterday during a break in training, adding that all-rounder Naeem was also very much unlucky.
Besides the left-handed Junaed, the axe also fell on Mohammad Ashraful, Naeem Islam and Nazmul Hossain while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Alok Kapali returned to the team which has only one new face in Shuvagoto Hom.
The Tigers returned to business yesterday after ten days break to prepare them for the upcoming home series against the Aussies, and except vice-captain and dashing opener Tamim Iqbal, all selected cricketers including Mashrafe joined the camp.
Siddons welcomed the return of Mashrafe, who had missed the World Cup due to knee injury.
“Good to have Mash (Mashrafe) back. He's a little bit underdone, he's got family concerns which are no business of mine, but hopefully he's got that all sorted so that he can focus on his cricket,” said Siddons.
